Cape Town’s renowned FYN restaurant has once again been honoured as one of the world’s best eateries, securing the prestigious 82nd position on The World’s 50 Best Restaurants extended list for 2025, Cape {town} Etc reports.
This recognition, marking the fifth consecutive year on the list, solidifies FYN’s stature as a luminary in the global culinary landscape.
Founded in 2018 by the visionary Chef Peter Tempelhoff, alongside Culinary Director Chef Ashley Moss and Service & Beverage Director Jennifer Hugé, FYN has redefined dining in South Africa.

Its approach intertwines the vibrant flavours and unique ingredients of South Africa, meticulously presented through a Japanese lens.
This is not merely a fusion of cuisines; rather, it is an ongoing dialogue where each dish serves as a medium for local storytelling, artfully crafted with the precision, respect for seasonality, and aesthetics that are hallmarks of Japanese culinary tradition.
‘To be recognised by the World’s 50 Best for the fifth time is an extraordinary honour, and this is a celebration of the whole team from our kitchen and service brigades to our foragers, farmers, fishermen, and ceramicists.’
‘FYN is the product of a deeply collaborative ecosystem, and this recognition is for everyone who plays a part in creating the FYN experience. We are very grateful,’ stated Tempelhoff, reflecting on the achievement.
In an era where sustainability and provenance are reshaping the global dining narrative, FYN stands at the forefront. The restaurant proudly holds the distinction of being the only establishment in Africa to receive the top-tier three-star rating from the Food Made Good Standard in 2025.
This accolade serves as a global benchmark for ethical hospitality. Furthermore, FYN is the only standalone restaurant on the continent to have been inducted into the exclusive Relais & Châteaux association, underscoring its commitment to excellence and responsible dining.
FYN’s sustained presence on The World’s 50 Best list not only enhances its reputation but also signifies Cape Town and indeed South Africa as a burgeoning hub of culinary innovation.
With its relentless dedication to highlighting local produce and engaging culinary dialogues, FYN continues to inspire both local and international diners.
