Council resolved that management, the Central Student Representative Council and affected CPUT students should engage on the outstanding SADTC matter, which is currently before the courts, Cape {town} Etc reports.
According to CPUT’s official newsflash, Council also welcomed further investigations by reputable independent bodies into reported matters and asked Senate to consider changes to the 2026 academic calendar to help recover lost academic time.
The latest decisions follow weeks of student unrest linked to financial concerns, accommodation costs, registration requirements and historical debt.
Cape {town} Etc previously reported on the escalating dispute in CPUT students vow to continue shutdown until demands are met, after students called for changes to accommodation costs and raised concerns about the gap between residence fees and NSFAS funding.
The latest Council decisions directly address some of the financial concerns raised by students, including the release of academic records for those affected by NSFAS accommodation debt.
With academic activities disrupted, attention now turns to the 5 September Council meeting and Senate’s consideration of changes to the academic calendar.
