Eskom bursaries took centre stage on 3 February when the utility awarded scholarships to 200 academically deserving students to study energy-related fields, reports Cape {town} Etc.
The handover aims to build skills in engineering and related sciences and to connect recipients to workplace opportunities in South Africa’s energy sector.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa welcomed the group and underlined the partnership between government and industry.
He urged the students to see the award as a responsibility as well as an opportunity, saying the event captured the belief that ‘energy being the future and the future being energy.

Eskom said the bursary programme forms part of a long-term plan to replenish technical capacity in the sector and to widen access to tertiary study for talented young people from across the country.
The company noted it has invested in thousands of students over recent years to strengthen the engineering pipeline.
A recipient at the ceremony described the award as life changing and said it would relieve financial pressure while allowing them to focus on studies and practical training.
