2026 is set to be a great year for film, with several great movies and new additions to franchises hitting our screens. While movie ticket prices continue to rise, these upcoming films are truly worth the big-screen experience.
So, whether you’re planning a family outing, a night out with friends, or the perfect movie date.
Jumanji – 5 December
The recent additions to the Jumanji universe breathed new life into the franchise. Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan led two action-packed, family-friendly films that proved to be crowd-pleasing adventures.
Although Jumanji: The Next Level was released in 2019, a new instalment is officially set to arrive in December 2026. Johnson, Hart, Black, and Gillan are all expected to reprise their roles, joined by Nick Jonas, Awkwafina, and Danny DeVito – promising a thrilling return to the jungle.
Michael – 24 April
Biopics have been a constant in cinema over the last decade, popularised by films like Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) and Rocketman (2018).
This year, the Michael Jackson story will hit the big screen, with the titular role being brought to life by Jafaar Jackson, the nephew of the iconic singer. Set to release on 24 April, the film will follow the singer’s journey to stardom and will surely be a crowd-pleaser.
Supergirl – 26 June
Superhero blockbusters are always a fun time at the cinema. After the success of James Gunn’s Superman (2025), it was announced that Supergirl would be getting her own film, the first theatrically released film about the character since 1984.
Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) will star as the titular superhero, introduced in the post-credits scene of Superman. With Jason Momoa as the villain, this is sure to be a great addition to the DC universe.
The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender – Spring 2026
Avatar: The Last Airbender is easily one of the most successful animated series of all time, with the series finding new life on Netflix in the past few years. Fans were thrilled when it was announced that an animated film following the original characters as adults was set to release this spring.
With Eric Nam, Jessica Matten, Román Zaragoza, and Steven Yeun set to voice the iconic characters of Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Zuko, respectively, this film is definitely a must for animation fans, as well as those who grew up with the original Nickelodeon series.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 – 1 May
The Devil Wears Prada is often considered one of the best films of the genre, following Anne Hathaway as Andy Sachs, a new intern at a fashion magazine.
The long–awaited sequel, The Devil Wears Prada 2, is set to release in May, with Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci returning, along with Meryl Streep reprising her iconic role as Miranda Priestly.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping – 20 November
This latest instalment in The Hunger Games series adapts the fifth book, centring on a young Haymitch Abernathy – originally portrayed by Woody Harrelson in the earlier films – during his own time in the arena. Set during the 50th Hunger Games, the second Quarter Quell, the competition features twice as many tributes, raising the stakes and intensifying the drama.
The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Ralph Fiennes, Elle Fanning, Kieran Culkin, Billy Porter, Jesse Plemons, Maya Hawke, and Glenn Close, alongside returning stars Harrelson, Jennifer Lawrence, and Josh Hutcherson.
Dune: Part Three – 18 December
The Dune films have been massive successes in recent years, finally adapting the complex world of Frank Herbert’s Dune novels to the big screen. After the first book was adapted into two films, released in 2021 and 2024, the third film will adapt Herbert’s Dune: Messiah.
Timothée Chalamet (Wonka, Marty Supreme) will reprise his role as Paul Atreides, with Zendaya returning as Chani. Other big names include Florence Pugh, Jason Momoa, Anya Taylor-Joy, Robert Pattinson, and Javier Bardem.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day – 31 July
After the massive success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the fourth Tom Holland-led Spider-Man film was finally announced, set to release this winter. The film will reportedly see Holland’s Spider-Man four years after the last film.
Holland and Zendaya will naturally return, joined by Jon Bernthal as the Punisher, in the character’s theatrical debut since his introduction in the Netflix series. Stranger Things’ alum Sadie Sink will also appear in an unknown major role.
The Odyssey – 17 July
Christopher Nolan films are always a huge draw for cinema fans, with his last release, Oppenheimer, being a huge success. This time, Nolan is bringing the world of Greek mythology to life, adapting the epic poem, The Odyssey, by Homer.
Even if you are not into Greek myth, the cast alone is enough to ensure a fantastic cinematic journey, with Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Mia Goth, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, and Travis Scott.
Avengers: Doomsday – 18 December
While the Marvel films have been somewhat of a mixed bag in the last few years, there’s no denying the experience of seeing a new Avengers movie in the cinema.
Set to release this December, Avengers: Doomsday will bring together characters and teams from across the Marvel Universe, including the Thunderbolts, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men. This will be the first time that X-Men actors like Ian McKellen and James Marsden will appear in the MCU, not to mention the return of Robert Downey Jr. as the titular villain, Doctor Victor Von Doom.
