The public was alarmed after they witnessed an injured seal pup struggling at Shark Point in Cape St Francis, and called upon the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) to assist.

It is believed that the pup is an Atlantic Cape Fur Seal, which NSRI took into their care.

The seal appeared to have been abandoned by its mother, and was severely dehydrated.

The St Francis Kromme Enviro Trsut arrived to assist and transport the seal to a local veterinary surgeon for medical care. Thereafter, the seal was transported to the Bayworld Oceanarium for further care and is expected to make a full recovery.
