With the rainy weather bringing in a cosy atmosphere, it’s the perfect season to curl up on the couch. There are plenty of great films and TV shows available to stream, as well as some must-sees at your local theatre.
With the long weekend coming up, these titles are a must-watch this week.
Michael
Over the past decade, biopics have become increasingly common in theatres thanks to the success of films like Rocketman (2018) and Bohemian Rhapsody (2018). Michael is coming to the big screen this week, following the story of the legendary performer, Michael Jackson.
Jafaar Jackson, the nephew of the famous singer, will play the title character in the biopic. The film, which follows the singer’s rise to fame and is scheduled for release on 24 April, is guaranteed to be a hit and is a must-watch for fans of the iconic artist.

Mother Mary
A24 always delivers thought-provoking films, and their latest addition, Mother Mary, is a must-watch for cinema fans. The surrealist psychological thriller stars Anne Hathaway as the lead, a fictional pop icon who is preparing for a big comeback tour.
Through a fierce, abstract, psychological war between the characters, the movie tackles themes of celebrity, trauma, and complicated power dynamics. The film will also feature music, which may interest older musical fans.

Dune: Part Two
With the highly anticipated climax to the Dune trilogy, Dune: Messiah, coming to cinemas this December, fans might want to rewatch the previous film in preparation. While the Dune films were available on Showmax, Netflix has just added Dune: Part Two to its library.
Following Paul Atriedes (Timothée Chalamet) as he unites with Chani (Zendaya) and the Fremen against the Harkonnen noble house, who killed his father in the first film. This space epic features stunning visuals and a stellar cast, including Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken, and Javier Bardem.

Godzilla x Kong
The Godzilla franchise has really reinvented itself in the pop-culture zeitgeist in the past few years. The 2024 film, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire ha recently been added to Netflix, and is the perfect action film to check out this week.
The film follows the iconic Godzilla and King Kong coming together against a colossal threat. This is a perfect popcorn movie full of action, high stakes, and thrilling giant-monster fight sequences.

Beef Season 2
The first season of Netflix’s Beef was a massive success, both critically and among audiences, with both of its leads winning Emmys for their performances. Now, the anthology series has dropped a new season, following two couples at a country club.
The series features a thrilling plot full of extortion, blackmail, and class warfare, and is sure to be a great binge. This new season features a new cast, including Oscar Isaac, (Star Wars, Dune) Carey Mulligan (Gatsby) and Charles Melton. (Riverdale, May December)

Daredevil: Born Again
While Marvel fans wait until December for Avengers: Doomsday, Disney+ is currently streaming the second season of Daredevil: Born Again. Following Matt Murdock as he fights to take down the evil New York mayor Wilson Fisk.
Six episodes of the eight-episode series are currently available to watch, with the final two episodes airing on 28 April and 5 May, respectively.
For longtime Daredevil fans, this season features the return of Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, who was originally introduced in the Netflix Marvel franchise, where she previously teamed up with Daredevil in The Defenders. (2017)

The Devil Wears Prada
With the long-awaited sequel to The Devil Wears Prada hitting the big screen on 1 May, viewers may want to rewatch the original film. Fortunately, Disney+ is currently streaming the classic title.
The film follows Anne Hathaway as Andie Sacks, a new intern at a highly acclaimed fashion magazine. Featuring stars like Meryl Streep, Stanley Tucci (Conclave) and Emily Blunt (Oppenheimer), the film is considered one of the best comedy-dramas of its era.
