Marvel’s Black Panther swoops into cinemas today and South Africans are dressing up for the occasion with the #BlackPantherChallengeSA.

South Africans are posting pictures of themselves in traditional African garb on social media, with some even nominating their friends to follow suit.

Ster Kinekor cinemas in Gateway and Cape Gate are hosting an Opening Night Party for the film tonight, and are requesting that guests dress up in traditional gear.

However, that’s not stopping people from marching into various other cinemas with their spears and colourful attire.

Black Panther is a first for the Marvel Cinematic Universe – which began with 2008’s Iron Man – as it marks the studio’s first black superhero to star in his very own film, and features a predominantly black cast.
