No matter who you are or what you stand for in South Africa, there is one term that unites us all – loadshedding.
Thanks to Eskom’s recent tango with, well, their job, locals everywhere have been reunited with the unwanted guest that takes away our electricity like the world’s most annoying thief.
But, if you’re able to find the humour in Eskom’s escapades and happen to be in a position where you can provide practical solutions, you might also do what Checkers has done with their ‘Eskom-plicated’ category.
Just like with The Tinder Swindler hype where Checkers used plot points from the Netflix hit to categorise some of their products.
If you missed out on how Checkers cleverly used The Tinder Swindler to spice up their marketing, you can read about it here.
Now as for ‘Eskom-plicated’, The Checkers Sixty60 app (used for online shopping) took to categorise products under creative titles, targeting Eskom and giving us a laugh and practical purchases in return.
Categories include:
- ‘Keep The Lights On’ for all your led light and torch needs
- ‘Fire it Up’ for braaiwood and BIC lighters
- ‘No Microwave? No Problem’ for poke bowls, ham, rolls and cheese assortments
- ‘Easy Peasy Salads’ which includes ingredients to whip it up for yourself
- Offline Fun & Games’ including boardgames like 30 Seconds, Scrabble and Rummikub
