Christmas nostalgia with Home Alone remake video

Macaulay Culkin is “Home Alone” once again – but this time, he’s all grown up.

Brands know childhood throwbacks make us feel all warm and fuzzy, so it comes as no surprise that according to Google Trends data, search interest in Home Alone soars around this time every year.

In a look at what a “Home Alone” remake might look like in 2018, Macaulay Culkin reprised his role as Kevin McAllister from the 1990 Christmas classic for the Google Assistant advertisement.

Culkin took to social media to share the remake video of the iconic holiday time movie.

“#heygoogle Have you ever wondered what Kevin McCallister is like as an adult?” Culkin tweeted. “Me neither. But just in case you’re curious you should totally watch this,” he shared.

In the advert, Macaulay Culkin recreates some iconic scenes from the film in the McCallister house at Christmas. But this time, Google’s voice-activated home automation system is there to help the grown-up version of Kevin.

In the same way as the original movie, Kevin wakes up to an empty house alone. “Mom? Dad?” he asks before realising he’s not completely alone, he has the Google Assistant. “Hey Google, what’s on my calendar today?” “You have one event called ‘House to yourself,’ ” the assistant responds.

“Oh yeah,” he says before we see a few familiar clips from the original.

He uses Google Assistant-enabled devices to help with his solo activities, like setting reminders for his shopping list, trying to put on aftershave, controlling the furnace and paying the pizza delivery man at the front door. He’s also able to outsmart the robbers using the devices.

This recreation comes 28 years after the original Home Alone movie was released.
