In a poignant loss for fans and the entertainment industry alike, action movie icon and martial artist, Chuck Norris, has died at the age of 86, reports Cape {town} Etc.
His family confirmed the news in a heartfelt statement released on Friday, March 20, following Norris’s hospitalisation in Hawaii earlier that week.
Born in 1940, Norris became a household name playing the role of Texas Ranger Cordell ‘Cord’ Walker in the beloved television series ‘Walker, Texas Ranger,’ which graced screens from 1993 to 2001.
However, it was his iconic portrayal of tough-guy roles in films during the 1970s and 1980s that firmly entrenched him in pop culture history.
Known for his martial arts prowess and rugged on-screen presence, Norris’s toughness transcended his roles, evolving into an almost mythological status among his fans.
In their announcement, the Norris family expressed profound sorrow, stating, ‘It is with heavy hearts that our family shares the sudden passing of our beloved Chuck Norris yesterday morning. While we would like to keep the circumstances private, please know that he was surrounded by his family and was at peace,’
The statement painted a portrait of a man who was not only an action star but also a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and brother.
His family described Norris as the ‘heart of our family,’ emphasising that he lived his life with faith, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved.
‘Through his work, discipline, and kindness, he inspired millions around the world and left a lasting impact on so many lives,‘ they added.
The outpouring of love and admiration from fans worldwide has showcased the deep connections Norris forged throughout his remarkable life.
‘The love and support he received from fans around the world meant so much to him, and our family is truly thankful for it. To him, you were not just fans; you were his friends,’ the statement revealed.
