The programme begins with a premiere of a restaging of ‘Vivace Motifs,’ choreographed by acclaimed American choreographer Jessica Lang. Lang’s work, known for its visual beauty and emotional depth, will set the tone for an evening of elegance and artistic expression.
The second piece, ‘Permission to Fall,’ is an original creation by chorographic artist and Doug Varone dancer Brad Beakes, who joined WGRUV in residency for two weeks to create this contemporary narrative that invites reflection on its evocative themes, providing a rich, contemplative experience to music by Ryan Lot and Ymusic.
The evening will culminate with an explosive performance by former Paul Taylor dancer and creator Michael Trusnovec, set in the 1950s. This unique piece will feature live guitarist Emmanuel Paul playing the bass notes! While dance magazine has compared Michael’s dance performance work to the ageless appeal of Fred Astaire, only a few works provide a look into this impact, as the WGRUV dancers mimic the fluid and smooth lines he models. Trusnovec’s piece, which features June Christy’s music, promises to transport viewers to a world of sheer delight for a romantic date or artsy family adventure that will not disappoint.
To add to the excitement, WGRUV is teaming with Joburg Ballet this season, with Marlon Sales joining the stage. Additionally, the group warmly announces its newest member, Ruan Galdino, whose talents will shine in this exceptional lineup with WGRUV’s brilliant and soulful dancers.
