The South African sense of humour is unique and uniting. A post uploaded in jest by Facebook user Siseko Cisco Mhlana has gone viral, and has amassed R1.3k shares since it was uploaded on July 29.

“So at work yesterday I helped an Afrikaans gentleman and his wife buy some stuff as the family have just recently moved down from the North West and don’t have coastal attire,” he wrote in a Facebook post.

“Mind you he didn’t speak much English so I used my limited grasp of the Afrikaans language to make a very respectable sale. I pulled out all of the tricks, I called him ‘Oom’ and called his wife ‘Tannie’ – people I was on a roll.”

“Then their daughter came in to get the car keys as she was at Spar. People I’ve never seen such an angel in my life,” he continued. “Deep blue eyes and freckles on olive tanned skin. Her face was hugged by beautiful long brown hair. I was weak at the knees. Long story short, what do you think of my outfit for the braai on Friday?”

Facebook user brings smile to faces across South Africa

“Uit die blou van onse hemel,’
Uit die diepte van ons see,
Oor ons ewige gebergtes,
Waar die kranse antwoord gee,” he concluded.

South Africans from across the country found the post hilarious.

“Met eish ja!” one social media user commented.

Dude!! Thanks for this. You realize something, you brought so much light and laughter in such a bad time. This is the type of humour that brings people together,” another commented.

“You’ve earned it you just need to start drinking klippies, dans jy reg ouboet,” another social media user commented.
