Fans of Thato Sikwane, also known as DJ Fresh, have threatened to boycott popular national radio station Metro FM if the station’s former host is not brought back.

As reported by TimesLIVE, Daniel Mokwa was the listener who reported DJ Fresh to the Broadcasting Complaints Commission of South Africa (BCCSA) for allegedly using the word “msunery”, a colloquial variation of the isiZulu swearword “msu**u”. In English, the word translates to “assh*le”.

According to Mokwa, DJ Fresh has used inappropriate language when talking to a listener who had called into the show. It is alleged that DJ Fresh told the listener to “stop tweeting from his a*se”.

The SABC has responded to the backlash from listeners, saying that their hands are tied in his suspension as it is the correct protocol to follow.

According to the BCCSA’s guidelines, the complaint has to be adjudicated upon – however, this only happens if the complainant (Mokwa) and the respondent (SABC) do not reach an impasse.

It is the duty of the BCCSA’s chairperson to hold a tribunal on the matter where both parties can make submissions on the matter. Once all submissions have been made, the chairperson will make a judgement on whether the complaint was justified or not.

If found guilty, the legendary radio host may be fired.
