One of Disney’s most renowned and classic films, The Lion King, has undergone a live action remake, and the official teaser trailer has just been released. The trailer sends shivers of nostalgia down our spine, reminding us of the magic the film brought to our childhoods.

Directed by Jon Favreau who also directed the 2016 remake of The Jungle Book, The Lion King is scheduled to be premiered in the United States on July 19 2019.

The all-star voice cast includes South African actor, John Kani, as Rafiki, Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé as Nala, John Oliver as Zazu, Seth Rogen as Pumba, and Billy Eichner as Timone.

Actor James Earl Jones plays the same character that he did in 1994, Mufasa, while Chiwetel Ejiofor is the voice of Scar.

The Walt Disney Company, which released the teaser, revealed the films first poster, featuring an image of Simba, in a post on social media.

“Take your place,” the post reads.

The teaser opens with Mufasa saying, “Everything the light touches is our kingdom. But a king’s time as ruler rises and falls like the sun. One day the sun will set on my time here and will rise with you as the new king … Remember”.

It also features a short clip from a scene that mirrors the iconic moment in the original film when Rafiki holds baby Simba up in the air in front of the animal kingdom to cheering, with cries of “ah zabenya …” in the background.

The film’s release date in South Africa is yet to be confirmed.
