Lakota Silva, South African musician is taking the music industry one beat at a time. Her success is exponential and we caught up with a singer to find out more about her metallic world…
What has been the highlight of your career thus far?
Through years of working with people, it’s been finally finding my ‘team’. It’s extremely important to have the right people supporting you, who believe in you, and build you up and I’m so blessed to be discovering that more and more every day. Also, opening for Justin Bieber was pretty frikkin awesome!
How does it feel to be nominated for a SAMA?
It feels wonderful thank you! I feel honoured and very blessed.
What is one of the biggest music industry myths?
Hmmm…well that would be that it’s easy (and glamorous!). It’s really not easy, it’s a lot of hard work, and to be glamorous, again, it’s hard work! But it’s so worth it because we get to do what we love to do.
If you could go back to any time in history just for a day, where would you go and why?
I’d go back to ancient Egyptian times. I’d love to know how they built the pyramids. Then we’d officially know! It would be fun to see women in those days as well, and I love the ancient stories and the fashion of the time; so dramatic and out there.
What TV show are you currently binge watching?
When I have time for TV, I binge watch Shameless!
Favourite Cape Town hotspot?
The top of Table Mountain! It’s so NOT overrated. It’s so beautiful from every side. And in terms of a hotspot, Truth Coffee, it’s so cool!
Quote you live by?
‘Only the fearless are great.’
What is the next big goal you want to achieve?
I really want to perform at the SAMAs! Performance is everything to me. The next step, however, is to send my music overseas. How exciting!
