MAMMA MIA! is set to return to the South African stage with an all-star cast, Cape {town} Etc reports. The 1999 jukebox musical has been a staple on the international stage, running on Broadway for 14 years, and currently holds the record for the fifth-longest-running show on the West End in London.
The musical, featuring the iconic songs from ABBA, is now returning to the South African stage, with shows running from:
- Thursday, 3 September – Sunday, October (Artscape in Cape Town)
- Friday, 16 October – End of November (The Teatro at Montecasino in Johannesburg)

This production is set to be legendary, with several experienced performers bringing the iconic roles to life. Amra Faye Wright will star as Donna Sheridan, the mother of the lead, Sophie.
Wright, who was born in South Africa, has a stacked history on the stage. She most famously starred as Velma Kelly in CHICAGO The Musical on Broadway, as well as on the West End, Europe, Japan, New Zealand, and South Africa. Her other credits include:

Wright will be joined on stage by several other established performers. The role of Tanya will be played by Samantha Peo, who previously worked with Wright in CHICAGO in 2005, with the two playing the iconic duo of Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly. Peo’s other credits include:

- The Addams Family: The Musical
The trio of Donna & the Dynamos will be completed with the addition of Lindy Abromowitz, known for her stage roles in:
- Kinky Boots
- Grease
- The Sound of Music
The leading role of Sophie will be brought to life by Leah Mari, who is currently starring in the South African production of PRETTY WOMAN: The Musical as Vivian Ward. Her other credits include The Sound of Music and CHICAGO: The Musical.
For the roles of Sophie’s fathers, Paul du Toit, a South African actor best known for Binnelanders, will play Sam Carmichael, with Tiaan Rautenbach as Bill Austin, and Matt Newman as Harry Bright. Newman has appeared in several international television series, including The Crown and Outlander.
