There’s less than two months left before the Galileo Open-Air cinema closes its doors for the winter. The Open-Air cinema is a great experience for locals and tourists, experiencing a night under the stars watching a great film.
There are several titles to choose from the remaining lineup, but some stand out as especially worth the night out.
Rise of the Guardians (Special Easter Show)
Easter has arrived as Cape Town enters autumn. Although there aren’t many options for Easter movies, Galileo has found a fantastic kids’ movie for their special Easter show. This is a film that the whole family will love, featuring the Easter Bunny as a key character. Following other characters like Jack Frost, Santa, and the Tooth Fairy, this film is perfect for little kids during the Easter school holidays.

Shrek
Shrek is one of those movies that everyone loves, from little kids to millennials who grew up watching the iconic film. This hilarious animated film would be a great experience at Galileo, sharing the laughs with the surrounding viewers. How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003) is one of those timeless romantic comedies and would make for a perfect date night. As you watch under the stars, the film’s comfortable atmosphere and portrayal of New York will truly set the scene.

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again
Musicals are always a fun crowd experience, and Galileo’s remaining lineup currently features three hits: Chicago, (9 May) Grease, (15 May) and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. In terms of the best experience, Mamma Mia would be the better choice, being the perfect musical watch for the whole family. Whether it’s girls’ night out or a family outing, this 2018 musical will be a great experience under the stars.

Fight Club
Fight Club is considered a cult classic, and Galileo is offering a chance to catch it in their remaining lineup. The 1999 film features a great cast, including Edward Norton, Brad Pitt, and Helena Bonham Carter, as well as an enthralling story. Rated 18 for violence, this film is a great choice for an adults-only night at the Open-Air theatre.

Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
The second Star Wars movie, The Empire Strikes Back (1980), is flawless from beginning to end. Even though the Star Wars films are accessible on Disney+, seeing what is often regarded as the best movie in the series with other fans is the ideal way to celebrate Star Wars Day on 4 May. Fun for the whole family, this iconic space opera is a must-watch.

When Harry met Sally
When Harry Met Sally is, without a doubt, the best date night movie Galileo has to offer in its remaining lineup. With a 90% Rotten Tomatoes rating, the 1989 classic is regarded as one of the best romantic comedies. With the film’s backdrop of New York decked up in autumn leaves, the autumnal vibes are evident here, which would really set a cosy mood as you watch under the stars with a blanket.
