A new and affordable global video streaming service is available to South Africans, making streaming and watching international and British TV shows easy.

Acorn TV is a popular streaming service that first launched in 2011 in the United States and Canada. It provides users with first-rate British and international series options. Previously, the streaming giant was geo-locked to specific areas of the world, but it has now opened its doors to an additional 29 countries, including Denmark, India, Venezuela, Jamaica, and our very own South Africa.

Streaming services in the country appear to be getting cheaper, and Acorn TV is no different—a subscription costs USD $4.99 (roughly R71) per month.

The online site is easily accessibly on multiple devices and platforms, including Android, Apple TV, iPhones, and iPads. English and Spanish subtitles are available, and all programs run in English.

A free one-week trial is available for consumers before they commit to the subscription.

South Africans are avid watchers of British television series, with many often turning to BBC on DStv, and Acorn TV offers an even bigger range of British options for viewers. The site releases new series weekly, some of which feature A-listers such as Benedict Cumberbatch, who stars in the drama ‘The Last Enemy’ on Acorn TV.

There is a range of genres to watch, from murder mystery to comedy, and all series are shown commercial-free.

Senior Vice President and General Manager for RLJ Entertainment’s Acorn TV told The Streaming Advisor that the brand is thrilled to be expanding across oceans.

“We are excited for global fans of British and international drama and mystery to discover the wonders of Acorn TV with addictive series featuring stellar acting, beautiful settings, and gripping storylines,” he said.
