The Liberty Promenade Next Generation Musical Showcase is set to return on Saturday, 19 October, where a record-breaking number of 22 participating schools from Mitchells Plain and the Cape Flats will participate to highlight their talents, Cape {town} Etc reports.
The event has become one of the ‘most anticipated events on the Western Cape’s school calendar’, as the competition would welcome one more school than last year, setting a new record for participation.

Learners from primary, high, and special needs schools will compete in a diverse display of dancing, singing, music, rap and other creative performances while vying for a share of ‘over R60 000 in cash prizes’.
These funds will be able to support the winning schools to upgrade their facilities and purchase educational resources.
In addition to the prizes for schools, selected learners and teachers will also receive special prizes for ‘extraordinary contributions to the showcase’.
With its 13th instalment, the Next Generation Musical Showcase has solidified its place as an event that not only celebrates young talent but also ‘gives learners the opportunity to express their views’ on current social issues in a positive way.
‘Stay Safe in Cyberspace’, this year’s theme, will encourage the youth to unpack the positives and pitfalls of social media and the digital realm.
Through their performances, learners will be able to raise awareness about important online safety practices, teaching their peers to limit screen time, being mindful of hurtful comments, keeping personal information private and to critically think before sharing.
The participating schools include:
- Alpine Primary School
- Beacon School for Learners with Special Education Needs (LSEN)
- Cascade Primary School
- Caradale Primary School
- Eastville Primary School
- Eisleben Road Primary School

Admittance is free to attend the event, but spectators are encouraged to arrive early as the starting time is 11am.
