The Harry Potter quiz night at Beerhouse has been lighting up Long Street the last few weeks. When my friends and I first tried to book for the early September quiz, all spots were sold out two weeks before. So, we gathered our team mates booked for the next HP quiz night and started prepping for the big test. We took our preparation seriously; books were reread, movies rewatched, Harry Potter Wiki’s search bar became a dear friend, and countless online quizzes taken.

Finally, the magical Monday night was upon us. My team took our seats, with our wands (well, sticks) at the ready,  feeling excited for the night ahead. Especially amped were my trooper teammates who came draped in black. We weren’t the only group grinning, the Harry Potter fans went all out with costumes and awesome team names such as Snapes On A Plane, Sexy Snitches and Levios-duh. Our team name was ‘I Am A What?’. To which the correct response would obviously be, ‘You’re a wizard, Harry’. Beerhouse came to the party too with the Harry Potter theme song playing in the background and a prize fit for drinking – 3 bottles of tequila and a case of craft beer.

In between rounds, we got to drink, eat and watch different games fit for the halls of Hogwarts. Extra prizes were given out for those who skillfully controlled their brooms in the pumpkin race and the most focused on floating a balloon with their wand (using the wingardium leviosa spell, of course). The crazy costumes were not just for fun as a best-dressed prize was also given out at the end of the night.

After the spots were called out, my friends and I felt that our Harry Potter knowledge was finally put to good use. Plus, my love for a fun quiz night out was reignited.
