The boredom of the national lockdown has resulted in the creation of many a social media challenge. From fancy dress trash days to the toilet toll challenge and “until tomorrow”, people have kept busy by daring each other to participate. Now, Springbok captain Siya Kolisi is posing a challenge to the men of the country.

Kolisi took to Instagram and shared a video of himself mopping the floor. In his caption he wrote “Starting a challenge for Men! Tag me in your house cleaning or cooking posts and you could win a signed rugby tshirt.”

The rugby champion called on South African men to help with cooking and cleaning around the house. In essence he wants men to pull their weight! What better motivation for men than a little push from the well-loved captain and a prize to incentivise them?

The comment section was abuzz. Springbok teammate Cheslin Kolbe’s wife Layla said: “When Rachel didn’t agree to the haircut, mop my friend!” to which Kolisi replied: “lol aseblief aunty ? I’ve tried to make this a positive thing for everyone”.

Layla Kolbe’s reply was in reference to a different post by Kolisi, in which he said “Do not ask your family members to cut your hair”.

Many found the water in the bucket Siya was using to mop with laughably dirty. One user said, “Siya please change that water”.

Others found it funny for other reasons. Like another user who seems to think men never clean up. “Wow this challenge is gonna make some men clean for the first time since they got married,” they said.

While it was all fun and games, quite a few men accepted the challenge whether it was in hopes of making their partners’ lives easier or simply to win the signed shirt.

“Challenge accepted… Tomorrow I’ll pay and tag after I’ve done it. Real men share responsibilities inside a house. I want the signed shirt by the way”, said one user.
