South Africa’s movie fans and content creators have a new chance to turn their love of cinema into a creative opportunity, with Ster-Kinekor launching a nationwide search for its next generation of digital storytellers.
The cinema group is looking for movie lovers, TikTok creators, lifestyle influencers and big-screen enthusiasts to join its SK Squad, a group that will create cinema-focused content and represent the brand across digital platforms.
The campaign, which was launched on 17 August, is aimed at people who know their way around a cinema schedule as well as those who can turn their enthusiasm for films and pop culture into engaging short-form content.
Lynne Wylie, who is the chief marketing officer of Ster-Kinekor Theatres, says the campaign is designed to find creators who can connect naturally with audiences.
‘Our ultimate goal with this exciting campaign is to build and activate an elite squad of content creators who can authentically engage movie-loving audiences, create compelling cinematic content, and champion the Ster-Kinekor brand across digital platforms,’ highlights Wylie.
The search is not limited to established influencers, as Ster-Kinekor says it is looking for creativity, confidence, personality and a genuine enthusiasm for watching movies on the big screen.
How to enter
Aspiring SK Squad members have until midnight on 27 August 2026 to enter. The first step is to create an original TikTok video of no more than 60 seconds explaining or showing what the cinema experience means to you.
The video must then be posted publicly on TikTok with the hashtag #SKSquadSearch.
Entrants must also email their full name, contact details and a link to their video to [email protected] before the closing deadline. Late entries will not be accepted.
Ster-Kinekor is also encouraging participants and movie fans to follow its official TikTok channel, which will serve as the campaign’s main hub for updates, new content and interactive moments during the search.
For Ster-Kinekor, the search is ultimately about finding creators who can bring their own personality and storytelling style to cinema content.
‘Once the search phase of the competition is complete, we will look to appoint a community of passionate cinema fans who know how to turn their love for movies into exciting, original content,‘ says Wylie.
‘What we are looking for is creativity, confidence, personality and a genuine love for watching movies on the big cinema screen.’
That focus could make the campaign particularly relevant to creators already producing entertainment, lifestyle or pop-culture content, rather than only traditional film reviewers.
The SK Squad initiative is being presented by Ster-Kinekor in collaboration with BIGGI Popcorn and Slush Puppie, both brands associated with the cinema experience.
Full entry requirements, terms and conditions and further competition information are available on Ster-Kinekor’s official SK Squad competition page.
