At Cape Town Etc, we scout out awesome events for you. I noticed that Café Roux Sessions were frequently sold out. Never having attended one before, curiosity drove me to see what was going down.

You will find Café Roux in the charming Noordhoek Farm Village. It’s open seven days a week for breakfast and lunch and on select weeknights for Sessions. The owners have a passion for music, and work hard to bring the best musical and comedy talent to the area. The artists receive 100% of the profit from ticket sales, so it’s an excellent way to support your favourites.

We were treated to a magnificent sunset as we cruised over Chappies. The Farm Village lies just a well-signposted turnoff from Chapman’s Peak Drive. We arrived shortly after 7 pm to grab dinner before the show. I would advise you to come early to find a good parking spot. You won’t be waiting around awkwardly for the show; the super chilled atmosphere will put you at ease.

The clipboard dinner menu changes regularly and offers several seasonal dishes. The food is delicious, the portions generous, and the prices reasonable.

Café Roux Sessions

This hundred seater eatery is an intimate environment for a performance. We attended a session of the live electronic act, The Kiffness. This duo’s infectious beats and sax/trumpet interludes inspire a bit of a boogie. Seeing artists play their instruments right in front of you is always engaging. However, our front row table view was obstructed after a few songs when almost half of the patrons started dancing. I spotted a few children having a blast too, which reminded me of the exciting feeling of being a kid at a ‘grown up party’. Usually, more of ‘sit-down and appreciate the entertainment’ atmosphere prevails, but it all rests on the band.

If you are a ‘townie’ like me, Noordhoek is far away, especially to travel at night. All the more reason to develop your South Peninsula connections or stay over in Noordhoek. Assign a designated driver, or squash as many as you can into an Uber and split the fare. It’s the perfect recipe for a carefree evening in the Deep South.

While the kitchen closes at 9:30 pm, the bar stays open later, and depending on the vibe, they will only close when everyone leaves.

When you book on Webtickets, you will automatically get a table. You can contact the restaurant to make special arrangements if need be. If you can’t get parking, try looking around Village Lane just outside.

As we drove back along Ou Kaapse Weg, I vowed to make more friends who live in the area. Head over yourself and find out why Café Roux Sessions are such an institution in The Deep South.
