A UK-based content creator’s extended stay in South Africa has turned into an unexpected cultural deep dive, this time through the country’s iconic snack aisle.
The video, shared on TikTok, shows content creator Tara Berwin sampling a range of South African sweets and savoury treats she had been holding onto for months before finally putting them to the test.
As highlighted by Briefly News, Berwin admitted the snacks had been sitting untouched for around four months before filming, joking that it was less discipline and more ‘world-class procrastination’ that delayed the tasting session.
She begins with some of the country’s well-known chocolate bars, drawing early comparisons between a Bar One and a Mars bar.
The Sweetie Pie proved more intense, prompting an immediate pause for something to drink. Cream soda, along with Stoney cream soda’s distinct green colour, left her visibly puzzled, as she questioned both its taste and appearance.
The tone of the video shifts once savoury snacks enter the mix. NikNaks earned a clear thumbs up, while a TV Bar quickly stood out as a favourite thanks to its light, aerated texture.
The tasting ends on a strong note with a Black Cat Peanut Crunch bar, which she described as layered and unexpectedly impressive.

A follow-up clip, posted a few days later, added another layer to the reaction. Opening with a light moment as she kicks off the video with a small burp, Berwin continues sampling more local favourites, including a Lunchbar, a PS bar, and other familiar South African treats, as she works through the remaining stash with a more relaxed and confident approach.
