Merging story-telling with a culinary journey that entices all the senses may seem like a tall order, however, DinnerTimeStoriesSA and Le Petit Chef have cooked up a storm of stories for Capetonians, and the experience deserves a seat at your must-do table.
The world’s smallest chef has come to Cape Town and on quite the quest. ‘Le Petit Chef in the Footsteps of Marco Polo’ offers a two-hour dining show that tells of the little chef’s adventures as he follows in Marco Polo’s explorative mappings. It’s really just like travelling the world, except only needed to travel to the Capital 15 on Orange in Gardens.
Beyond tantalising the tastebuds, the tales come to life to feed our imaginations. Projections and 3D mapping use optical illusion techniques to project the little Chef cooking on your plate and tabletop!
The show’s six-course dinner takes guests along the culinary journey across the lands the legendary traveller visited, infused with the essence of each country passed through with a local twist.
In this run of the story, the tale is told of a South African who runs into Le Petit Chef while backpacking in France and becomes his assistant – eventually bringing him home to Cape Town.
Your authentic culinary journey begins as you traverse the Asian continent through the desert sands of Arabia, the dripping colours of India, the peaks of the Himalayas, the heavy mists of China, returning to the point of origin in the romantic cobbled streets Marseilles, France – experiences of the Silk Route countries.
“This is truly a remarkable and unique dining adventure, never seen before in Cape Town – a city that is accustomed to the finest dining experiences that the world has to offer,” says Garnet Basson, Chief Operating Officer of The Capital Hotels and Apartments. “We are so proud that Le Petit Chef has chosen our hotel to introduce this incredible show to the Cape Town market, and we’re looking forward to a successful run of the show, in our specially adapted venue.”
A taste of the experience:
As the evening opens you are given a complimentary snap, crackle, and pop with a side of gin, an inspired, worldly beverage adorned with the trimmings of an experienced world traveller.
Diners are given the option of Steenberg wine-pairing done to complement the dishes served – a wine for each course and country that showcases a dining harmony of food and drink.
Although the menu remains shrouded in mystery, sit back and allow Executive Chef Gerard van Staden (together with the tiny Chef) and his team of culinary magicians, to delight every tastebud no matter your dietary needs – vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halaal-and-Kosher friendly.
Le Petit Chef and DinnerTimeStoriesSA are the product of a few of the most talented and entertainment-industry leading minds: Filip Sterckx and Antoon Verbeeck of Skullmapping fame, Nadine Beshir as concept creator, and brought to Southern Africa for your enjoyment by Paul Rouessart the South African international show producer
and owner of ‘100% EVENT’.
