Founder of Adopt-a-pet Animal Shelter, Cicely Blumberg, passed away in May 2020, leaving the Phillipi-based organisation with no other option but to close their doors after 17 years of helping animals in need.

TEARS Animal Shelter have stepped up to the plate in ensuring that no floofy friend gets left behind or returned back to the streets, with remaining dogs and cats being transferred to their Lekkerwater shelter in Sunnydale. Here, they’ll be integrated into an adoption program.

“The passing of my dear friend and Adopt-a-Pet founder Cicely Blumberg has resulted in a gaping hole in the animal welfare and compassion education sectors in Cape Town. Cicely was a tireless crusader for human and animal justice, and dedicated her life’s work to improving the lives of pets and pet owners in low-income communities across the Cape Flats,” said TEARS co-founder and director, Marilyn Hoole.

Since Cicely’s passing, many lucky dogs and cats have headed to their forever homes. However, a few less-fortunate are still hanging in the balance.

On Saturday 6, you could play your part in supporting the animal welfare cause by providing a loving home to a dog or cat in need. If you are interested in expanding your family, make sure to complete the adoption questionnaire prior to the event, as the kennel and cattery team always prioritise “match-ability” between pet and pet owner.
