Fibre Designs, South Africa’s leading designer of handwoven floorware, and RK Contemporary, a Riebeeck Kasteel-based art gallery, have announced a collaboration that will feature local artists exhibiting at Fibre Designs’ studio in De Waterkant, Cape Town.

This collaboration combines Fibre Designs’ expertise in handwoven luxury rugs with RK Contemporary’s commitment to curating contemporary South African art.

‘We are excited about the possibilities that this collaboration brings,’ says Astrid McLeod, owner and curator at RK Contemporary. ‘It’s not just about combining textiles with art; it’s about creating an experience within the spaces we inhabit. Together, Fibre Designs and RK Contemporary aim to elevate the way people perceive and interact with their surroundings.’
RK Contemporary will curate regular exhibitions at the Fibre Designs Studio in De Waterkant, showcasing contemporary art from a variety of disciplines such as painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, and ceramics.
In 2009, Antoine opened the doors to this bespoke studio. Pierre, who was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo (then Belgian Congo), places a high value on the craftsmanship and quality of his bespoke products. He has received commissions from ABC New York, the world’s largest rug retailer, Takor (Spain), Merida Meridian (USA), and Casa Julio Tapestes (Brazil). Other corporate commissions include Anglo American’s prestigious Ravenswood Manor in Cape Town.
