Cape Town is set to be a vibrant hub for art enthusiasts and creators alike as the 2025 edition of Nando’s Creative Exchange (NCX) embarks on its second showing, titled Making Space.
Kicked off on 29 January 2026 and running until 26 February 2026 at the esteemed Association for Visual Arts (AVA) Gallery, this exhibition promises to be a remarkable showcase of talent and innovation in the South African art scene.
Making Space features an engaging collection of works from four notable South African artists: Fleur de Bondt from Johannesburg, Cape Town’s own Debbie Field, Sello Letswalo also hailing from Johannesburg, and Mduduzi Twala from Soweto.
Each artist interprets the theme of ‘Making Space’ through their unique lens and distinct artistic practices, resulting in works that are not only intimate and personal but also experimental in their approach.
Guided by conceptual artist and educator Emma Willemse, these four creatives have ventured into various physical, emotional, and conceptual territories, contributing to an enriching dialogue about space itself—how it can be represented, experienced, and understood.
From painting and sculpture to print and mixed media, each piece promises to captivate and inspire viewers.

The AVA Gallery, known for its dedication to artistic development and community engagement, provides an ideal setting for this next stage of the NCX. This relocation reflects the shared mission of Nando’s and the Spier Arts Trust to cultivate sustainable artistic careers.
By offering a platform that enhances visibility and audience reach, they aim to deepen public engagement with art from Southern Africa.
Since its launch in 2011, NCX has been instrumental in celebrating emerging and mid-career artists who display exceptional promise. Sponsored by Nando’s and administered by Spier Arts Trust, this programme supports artists through mentorship from established figures, access to vital materials, and collaborative opportunities with fellow creators at HUB Studios.
The exhibition at AVA is set to coincide with the highly anticipated Investec Cape Town Art Fair, enhancing its relevance in the art community.
Mirna Wessels, CEO of Spier Arts Trust, encapsulates the ethos of the exhibition, stating, ‘Making Space is a celebration of the freedom to create, the generosity of mentorship and the collaborative spirit that emerges when artists are given the time, space and support to explore their practices fully,’
Having previously enjoyed a successful run at HUB Gallery, Making Space at the AVA Gallery promises to be an unmissable experience for anyone involved or interested in the arts.
Mark your calendars and prepare to immerse yourself in the expressive works of Fleur de Bondt, Debbie Field, Sello Letswalo, and Mduduzi Twala.
