Ingrid Altmann, a local Noordhoek artist, is thrusting life into old paintings by adding comical cartoon characters to the previously unwanted artworks.
‘This old Painting’ will be Altmann’s first exhibition and will showcase her first 15 paintings. It will be held at Noordhoek Art Point Gallery, found along Noordhoek Main Road, for the entire month of October.
Altmann had been in the PR industry for the past 20 years, before recently deciding she wanted to explore new avenues. Inspired by her innate love for art and painting, and concepts she had seen online, Altmann began this new collection.
“I have always been passionate about recycling and upcycling items to give them a new lease on life,” says Altmann. “I came up with the idea of adding comical characters to older pieces of artwork that I found in second-hand stores, particularly characters from my childhood.”
Altmann searched second-hand and thrift stores all over the Western Cape for art treasures. She then added her own dynamic, creating fabulous, quirky pieces.
“I love adding characters from my childhood into these paintings as they make me laugh and they breathe life into old unwanted paintings,” adds Altmann.
