The Baxter Theatre Centre is an iconic Cape Town spot for lovers of the performing arts. Sitting at the foot of the mountain on UCT’s lower campus, the theatre is known for telling important South African stories.

My Hart is ‘n Muurbal (en ander gedagtes)
A man falls in love with a statue. A father returns from the dead. The last two gay men on earth decide whether a relationship would be worth the trouble. A road trip with your ex-boyfriend’s mother. These stories all form part of a new comedy from the pen of Wessel Pretorius.

The Rangers
A psychological thriller with dark comedic undertones. The Rangers, follows childhood best friends, Zakes and Charlie, as they look for Zakes’ brother, who disappeared 10 years ago after a tragedy in the family. When they find him, sickening secrets of the past are uncovered, and the closeness of the two friends and the estranged brother is profoundly disturbed.
The play is written and directed by Daniel Newton. Featuring Nicholas Pauling, Aidan Scott and Lyle October.

Prêt-à-Danser – A Fynbos Fashion Fairytale
Make sure you are in the front row for a ballet extravaganza of fynbos fairies and fabulous fashionistas! This is the Spring, Summer and .. Fall of clothing designer Evilena, who makes ’to die for’ fashion out of the endangered species of the Cape.
The De Moyencourt School of Ballet, based at St Cyprian’s School, presents an original adventure ballet, featuring our youngest and most advanced dancers, and promises to deliver fun entertainment for the whole family.

Marc Lottering – So I Wrote That Musical
SO I WROTE THAT MUSICAL is Marc Lottering’s brand new stand-up comedy show. Marc has recently come out of his smash hit musical AUNTY MERLE THINGS GET REAL. Seen by more than 40 000 people, it was the third musical penned by Lottering.
In his new solo stand-up show, one of South Africa’s favourite comedians shares hilarious stories as he reflects on the fascinating process of moving between the worlds of stand-up comedy and musicals. And as is to be expected, Lottering will weave in his views on the madness of current South African life.

iKrele leChiza
iKrele leChiza…the sermon, a production conceived and directed by Mandla Mbothwe comes to The Baxter for a limited season. This profound new work tells the story of a family trapped in liminal spaces between life and death and is told by a stellar cast of contemporary artists and the next generation of SA performers from the Magnet Theatre Youth Company. UCT’s CTDPS and Magnet Theatre’s iKrele leChiza…the sermon is part of the Reimagining Tragedy in Africa (ReTAGS) project. A production of ritual, song and magic realism, it stirs up a dreamlike state of spiritual ecstasy much like a sermon.
