Boatica Cape Town, Africa’s largest boating show, comes to the V&A Waterfront this week, from Friday, 25 October to Sunday, 27 October, Cape {town} Etc reports.
This year’s exhibition will showcase highly sought-after South African-made boats, cutting-edge boating gear, water sports equipment, and maritime technology. There will also be a segment that highlights job possibilities in the business.
‘The City proudly supports this event which showcases the best in local marine manufacturing, most of whom are based right here in Cape Town. Boatica is a highlight for the industry because it is a display of the breadth and variety of innovation, talent and skill of our boat-builders,’ said James Vos.
The 2024 edition of Boatica will have over 70 exhibitors, over 50 boats on show, and a variety of activities like as live vessel demonstrations, boat racing, product launches, and marine industry-related speeches.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to participate in events such as stand-up paddle boarding and sailing lessons from the South African Sailing Academy.
‘Our rich ocean economy is not just about leisure; it’s about creating jobs and driving sustainable practices,’ Vos said. ‘By attending Boatica, visitors will get an inside view of the opportunities that our marine sector offers, reinforcing our commitment to economic growth through high-growth industries.’
As part of the City’s attempts to attract local and international visitors, guests will be able to purchase customised travel packages featuring Cape Town’s destination attractions.
The City will once again have a stand at this year’s event, alongside its industry partner, Blue Cape; The Little Optimist Trust, the non-profit organisation that runs the South African Sailing Academy; the Shark Spotters NPO; and bag-maker Maykamark.
‘And an exciting new feature for job-seekers and those looking to be part of marine manufacturing will be the ‘Job Wall’ which will highlight a wide range of employment opportunities within the industry. This platform connects attendees with the growing maritime sector, offering diverse career paths,’ said Vos.
The City supports Blue Cape’s efforts on research and skill development in all sectors of marine manufacturing, including boat building, superyachts, and ocean sports, as well as how they relate to other businesses.
‘The South African leisure boatbuilding industry contributes an incredible estimated R3,2 billion to the country’s economy every year, and to the wider ocean economy, a further R2 billion. Boatica Cape Town plays a pivotal role in promoting South Africa’s boatbuilding industry on the global stage, making it an integral partner to the industry. We anticipate an exceptional show this year,’ said Bruce Tedder, Blue Cape founder and chairman of the South African Boatbuilders Export Council.
