This year’s Pop-Up Fly Event will be held at Melkbosstrand Beach on Sunday, 27 October, featuring top local kiters like Mari and Bradley Ware-Lane, Bobby Gathoo, Brian Skinner, and some international surprises.
Since 1994, Cape Mental Health’s flagship event has been a cherished October tradition in Cape Town, symbolising community strength, resilience, and mental health awareness.
Cape Mental Health invites dreamers to let their kites soar this October, filling the sky with hope while raising mental health awareness.
The event brings artists, mental health ambassadors, staff, care users, and volunteers to share stories of pain, healing, and recovery.
Each meaningful conversation helps reduce stigma, with the Cape Town International Kite Festival promoting open, non-judgmental dialogue.
Kite Festival details:
23 October: The Community Fly Day at Heideveld Sports Field will bring together children with intellectual disabilities from CMH’s centres and local preschoolers for a kite-flying day.
26 October: The EduKite Competition at Curro Century City will feature a kite-making contest for primary schools, promoting mental health awareness.
27 October: Melkbosstrand Beach will host the vibrant Pop-Up Fly Event, where local and international professional kiters will fill the sky with colour.
