In February, the diligent inspectors of the Cape of Good Hope SPCA rescued a severely malnourished pony from a school property in Bridgetown. Rainbow Dash was found in a state of extreme emaciation, lying helplessly on the ground, unable to stand. But today, that very same pony is living the life he always deserved.

In February of this year, the Cape of Good Hope SPCA received a complaint concerning a pony that was severely malnourished and deprived of food and water. Without hesitation, the inspection team sprang into action to investigate the situation.
Upon arrival, the inspectors discovered the pony lying on the ground, incapable of standing up. The pony was emaciated and clearly lacked any access to water or sustenance, and it was clear to the inspectors that urgent intervention was necessary. They contacted the SPCA’s Horse Care Unit, which swiftly arranged for a horse box.
Subsequently, the owner came forward and voluntarily surrendered Rainbow Dash, the pony in question, to the Cape of Good Hope SPCA, acknowledging the inability to provide proper care. The owner faces criminal charges for animal cruelty under the Animals Protection Act 71 of 1962.
Up until the point of his rescue, Rainbow Dash had endured a life of unimaginable suffering. Each passing day only brought him closer to the brink of death, leaving little room for joy or respite. However, despite his emaciated and collapsed state, Rainbow Dash’s indomitable spirit refused to surrender, and the life he always deserved was granted to him when Kim Kolb gave him a loving home.
Rainbow Dash stands as a testament to resilience and triumph, demonstrating that strength and courage reside even within the most downtrodden souls, and Kim Kolb is a hero for stepping forward, recognising the value of life, and committing to Rainbow Dash’s lifelong well-being.
The Cape of Good Hope SPCA expressed its deepest gratitude to all the heroes, both visible and unseen, known and unknown.
‘Your unwavering dedication, sacrifices and acts of selflessness shape our world for the better. You inspire us all to strive for the extraordinary within ourselves.’
