The City’s Events Permit Office has approved 39 events taking place this week. Here are some highlights of what to expect, Cape {town} Etc reports.
This week, Cape Town will host grassroots football, Premier Soccer League football, the kite festival and a music festival on consecutive days, to mention a few.
The 39 authorised events are expected to attract around 105 000 spectators and participants.
The Cape Town Central Business District and surrounding areas are likely to be busy over the weekend, with at least nine events scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
‘We are heading into a busy season of events in Cape Town, especially around the CBD area,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security JP Smith.
‘This uptick in events represents many opportunities for SMMEs, hotels, restaurants, retail, suppliers, artists and general workers who benefit from the greater events ecosystem. We hope that residents and visitors will take advantage of the good weather to experience the entertainment, vibrancy and energy brought by the events in Cape Town. We also understand that events have an impact on our roads and some residential areas. The City’s events teams work closely with event organisers to mitigate the effect on traffic and on businesses.’
