The Killarney family are welcoming President Cyril Ramaphosa’s announcement that it is no longer a government requirement to wear a mask at outdoor venues with huge smiles. And just being able to see those smiles makes Round 2 of the 2022 Power Series presented by Wingfield Motors at Killarney on Saturday 9 April a special occasion after more than two years of lockdown.
There’s plenty to smile about too, with a full programme of races for the headline Thermo Fires Clubmans Saloons, as well as the Alert Engines GTi Challenge and the combined BEJO Trustees Fine Cars and Laude Classic Cars.
Then there’s the one-make V8 Masters and Formula Supercars, where all the cars are identical and it’s all down to driver skill and nerve, which always deliver close racing, while for purists there are races for Spitfire Furniture Sports & GT cars and Formula Libre single seaters.
The two-wheeled heroes of the South Superbikes/Superbike Challenge/Masters/600s, the Strato Technology Clubman/Classic/Breakfast Run Motorcycles and the Bridgestone Super Twin Cup 650 and Super Sport 300 Motorcycles provide some of the closest, most exciting racing to be seen anywhere in the world.
Pre-book at Computicket or pay at the gate. Qualifying starts at 8:00am and you get a whole day of world-class motor racing on two and four wheels for R80 for adults, R20 for scholars under 16 and free for children under 12. Western Province Motor Club members also get in free.
There’s ample parking all around the circuit, so bring your beach umbrella or gazebo, bring your picnic basket and your cooler box, light up your skottelbraai, park next to one of our brick braais, or just pick a spot on own and make the day your own – or just pick a spot on one of our shaded grandstands.
There are outlets around the facility serving hot snacks and ice-cold beverages – as well as children’s play areas, including the famous Kiddies’ Korner, the coolest party zone on the West Coast, which is available for hire year-round. On Race Day, kids get to use it absolutely free.
Spectators are free to move around throughout the day; grab a spot on the free shuttle service and watch the action from different vantage points. The pits are always open to spectators, so you can also see the cars and motorcycles up close.
Killarney cares about your health and well-being; wearing a mask is no longer required outdoors, but please remember to wear your mask over your nose and mouth when entering one of our indoor venues and keep a social distancing space of at least one metre between persons at all times.
