As you may have seen time and time again, a scene that makes the entire audience laugh is when a character slips on a banana peel. From early black and white movies to today’s cartoons. What if there is more to banana peels than just comedic relief?
Did you know that bananas are arguably the most consumed fruit in the world, so a lot of peels just get thrown away? Rather than slipping on banana peels, why not put them to work?
Here are 4 creative ways to use banana peels instead of just throwing them into the trash:
1. Perfect for compost:
Since bananas produce methane gas, you can use them for composting or gardening. Throw the banana peels on the soil or work them into your garden’s soil with a spade.
2. Shine your shoes:
No shoe polish? No worries, it turns out that banana peels are excellent at polishing leather, such as furniture, shoes, and purses. Just use the inside of the peel on your leather product and rub it until they are shiny and mark-free.
3. Reduces scars:
As surprising as it may sound, banana peels can find their place next to your face wash and cream, according to Bright Side. Take the fleshy portion of the banana peel and rub it right on your face. Leave it there for around 10 minutes, and then rinse your face. Repeat twice daily and watch those scars fade.
4. Simply eat it:
The easiest way is to eat it! Since banana peels are bursting with nutrients and antioxidants, they are edible, according to Healthline. To make them easier to digest, boil the banana peel in water for about 10 minutes and then add it to a juicer.
Banana peels can be enjoyed on their own or blended with other fruits like strawberries and of course to make refreshing smoothies.
