Carmién’s new twist on an everyday kitchen staple is turning heads among home cooks: cooking teabags designed not for sipping, but for simmering.
The innovative range works much like a traditional tea infusion, but instead of a cup, the flavours are released directly into your pot. Each teabag contains a carefully balanced blend of herbs and spices that can be added straight into soups, stews, sauces or casseroles while cooking. As the dish simmers, the flavours slowly develop and deepen, without leaving behind loose herbs or spice fragments. Once the meal is ready, the tea bag is simply removed.
The concept has long been used in professional kitchens. Food expert Carmen Niehaus has reportedly been using cooking teabags in her own cooking for years as a practical shortcut for building rich, layered flavour in everyday dishes. Now, the technique is being made widely available to home cooks looking for an easy way to elevate their meals without complicated prep.

At the heart of the launch is a new Pure Rooibos Combo Pack, developed for use as a natural, flavourful stock alternative. It includes a catering-sized mix of red and green rooibos cooking bags designed to create a concentrated base for savoury and sweet dishes alike.
Red rooibos brings a warm, full-bodied depth that pairs especially well with spices, while green rooibos offers a lighter, more herbal fynbos character that works beautifully with fresh ingredients. The result is a versatile cooking base that can replace water or stock in everything from potjies and bredies to grains, vegetables and even desserts.

For those who prefer bolder flavour profiles, the Spicy Rooibos Masala Chai blend offers a fragrant alternative. Infused with cardamom, turmeric, ginger, black pepper, cinnamon and cloves, it brings a gently spiced depth to curries, marinades and slow-cooked dishes. It can even be steeped in milk or cream to add warmth to desserts and baked goods.
Both blends have been approved by Carmién’s master blender and endorsed by Niehaus, reinforcing their culinary credibility.
Simple, mess-free and designed for everyday cooking, the concept is essentially about making flavour infusion as easy as making a cup of tea – just in a pot, not a mug.
