Historic Constantia mansion auction
November 18, 2019 @ 9:30 am - 7:00 pm
Own a part of history with Strauss & Co at their auction of the content of the historic Harcroft House. Harcroft house has been in prestine condition and has remained untouched for 70 years and is a treasure trove of antiques and art.
Until 1941, at the time of the Japanese invasion when they were forced to flee, British-born Charles Rycroft and his wife Muriel ran Harcroft Rubber Estates Ltd in Perak, Malaysia. After their trials and tribualtions which resulted from their fleeing, they made it back to Perak to rebuild their plantation and factory. Thereafter, they made their move to Cape Town, in the 1950’s. Hence the name “Harcroft House”. The mansion carries striking similiaries to their home in Malaysia, even still housing some of the pieces from Perak.
The Arts and Crafts mansion, previously owned by the Baxter family, has become the ideal home for antiques and works of art and pieces collected by the Rycrofts throughout their travels.
The contents of the the historic mansion will be on sale at the Strauss & Co auction which takes place at Harcroft House (End of Norton Dingle Drive, Constantia, Cape Town).
Public viewing will take place from Friday, November 15 to Sunday, November 17 from 10am to 5pm.
The auction will take place on November 18 in three sessions.
