Join the Reforest Festival in Starting a “Treevolution”
March 15 - March 24R525
The Reforest Festival, the biggest tree planting festival in Africa, comes to Cape Town in March 2019. Africa is the world’s most rapidly urbanising continent, and as cities expand, natural spaces and the critical services they provide, tend to come under threat. The festival is on a mission to change that.
Reforest is brought to Cape Town by the Greenpop Foundation, a registered non-profit organisation that aspires to plant trees, encourage green communities, and empower environmental stewards across Southern Africa.
With the help of the festival, Greenpop has planted 101,303 indigenous and fruit trees, painted 17 nature-themed murals, built 60 beehives, planted six community forest gardens, run 570 sustainable development workshops, and hosted 30 environmental action festivals across four countries in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Spread over two separate dates, the event hosts a weekend for family and a weekend for friends. Gather your family for a relaxing and rewarding weekend away in nature or round up your friends to get down and dirty, all while giving back to Mother Earth. Either way, Reforest has set up an event that caters for all nature-lovers and environmentalists.
Families are invited to the forest from March 15 to 17 2019 for a weekend rich in entertainment for all ages. The festival calls on friends from March 22 to 24 2019 for a celebration of music, heart and soil. This is a special opportunity to reconnect with nature and with each other. Get your hands dirty and have fun doing it with tree planting, workshops, morning yoga sessions, live music from an array of genres and more.
The Platbos Forest, in partnership with the Platbos Forest Reserve, is hosting the “treevolutional” event. Platbos is an ancient indigenous forest situated at the foot of Africa. Described by well-known botanist and author, Professor Eugene Moll, as a “unique South African forest jewel”, this is a forest that enchants and inspires all who come to visit.
The accommodation requires planters to pitch a tent (or rent one from festival) and sleep under the stars. A space in the general camping area is included in your festival ticket. Find your favourite spot, pitch your tent and rest easy. There are also multiple alternative accommodation options available on neighbouring farms and near Platbos forest. Campers are given the option of upgrading their experience with special festival tickets, at an additional cost.
Reforest Fest is a conscious festival. For this reason, they strive to serve food from vendors that keep the health of both the guests and the planet in mind. You can expect a delicious selection of fresh vegan and vegetarian food and drinks.
Phase two tickets for the family weekend are going for R525. Children between 4-12 years old get access for R220 and toddlers enter for free. Tickets for the friends weekend are also available at R525. If you can’t make the event but want to contribute to the cause, visit the Reforest website to sponsor a tree.
Guests are invited to plant thousands of trees, dance to live local bands, learn with sustainability leaders, camp under the stars, and be inspired by positive collective action…
