A Jazz Evening Fundraiser, taking place on May 3, will be held in support of the literacy NGO, Read to Rise, so that more children in Mitchells Plain can be inspired to read.
As the name indicates, this non-profit organisation firmly believes that children need to read in order to rise in their personal development and contribution to society.
Children who love reading, excel at school and go on to become constructive members of society. It all starts with reading. Read to Rise aims to address the troubling reality that young children in our communities are not reading enough for their educational development. Children in the foundational phase should be reading around 40 books per year but in our under-resourced communities children are reading only one to two books per year.
Book ownership is an important step towards children’s love of reading. The foundation distributes brightly coloured, high quality books that are educational, entertaining, and inspirational. All proceeds from the event will go directly to the literacy NGO which will assist in these children receiving a new story book.
For bookings, contact 084 499 3910, 071 876 6608, or 061 586 2635. Tickets are R120 and all costs will be donated to Read to Rise. Guests are welcome to bring their own platters to enjoy whilst soaking up some live Jazz music. The event runs from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.
