This series has evolved into a beacon of hope and harmony, welcoming each year with performances that are both nostalgic and revolutionary.
In 2023, the series took South Africans on a journey with the emotive jazz vocalist Gregory Porter. In 2024, Grammy-winning R&B artist Lalah Hathaway graced the stage, delivering a soulful experience that left audiences captivated.
Now, 2025 promises to take it up a notch, presenting a Soul Odyssey with a trio of powerhouse acts, each set to perform in carefully selected venues designed to heighten the experience.
A Tribute to Legends: Simphiwe Dana and Jeremiah Abiah Celebrate Simone and Makeba
The series will kick off on 18 January at the Montecasino Teatro in Johannesburg, where South African Afro-soul artist Simphiwe Dana and Ghanaian-American singer Abiah will come together to honour the iconic legacies of Nina Simone and Miriam Makeba. Known as the ‘High Priestess of Soul,’ Simone’s legacy resonates deeply across cultures and eras. Miriam Makeba, beloved as ‘Mama Africa,’ left an indelible mark on global music with her unique blend of Afro-soul and unwavering activism.
A Soulful Journey: Soul II Soul at Farmhouse 58 and Kirstenbosch Gardens
After the tribute in Johannesburg, audiences can look forward to an exhilarating performance by Soul II Soul, British legends who rose to fame with their 1989 hits ‘Keep on Movin’ and ‘Back to Life (However Do You Want Me).’ With their fusion of reggae, R&B and neo-soul, Soul II Soul has a unique and timeless sound that defined an era and continues to captivate fans worldwide.
The group’s founding member, DJ Jazzie B, has been the driving force behind Soul II Soul’s evolution from a London sound system in the 1980s to an award-winning band with multiple accolades, including a Grammy for Best R&B Performance. Known for their infectious grooves and the slogan ‘A happy face, a thumpin’ bass, for a lovin’ race,’ Soul II Soul promises to bring this ethos to two enchanting locations.
Their first performance will take place at Farmhouse 58 in Kromdraai Valley, near the Cradle of Humankind, on 1 February. This breathtaking setting will allow fans to experience their uplifting sound in an open-air environment that complements the band’s dynamic energy. One week later, Soul II Soul will take to the stage at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens in Cape Town on 8 February. Nestled in one of the world’s most beautiful gardens, the concert at Kirstenbosch offers a rare chance to experience live music in harmony with nature, creating a memory that will last a lifetime.
