The small West Coast village of Redelinghuys, known for its quiet charm and strong community spirit, is preparing to welcome visitors from across the province as it hosts the first-ever Sandveld Fees festival on 2 May 2026, Cape {town} Etc reports.
Set against rolling farmlands and stretches of wild fynbos, Redelinghuys is expected to come alive with music, food and festivities during the full-day event, aimed at showcasing the unique culture and character of the Sandveld region.
The festival will take place at the Redelinghuys Sports Grounds from 9 am to 11pm, with a programme featuring live music and performances throughout the day in a relaxed, family-friendly setting.
Celebrating community and culture
Though modest in size, Redelinghuys carries a rich agricultural heritage and a reputation for warm hospitality. Organisers say the festival is designed to reflect that identity, bringing together locals and visitors in a shared celebration of community life.
‘The Sandveld Fees is about showcasing the heart of the Sandveld, and Redelinghuys offers visitors a chance to experience genuine West Coast hospitality, beautiful natural surroundings and a strong sense of community,’ said organiser Nomonde Ndlangisa. ‘We’re excited to welcome both locals and visitors to be part of something truly special.‘

Food, stalls and family activities
Festivalgoers can expect a variety of food stalls offering local dishes, sweet treats and refreshments, alongside a dedicated bar area. Handmade goods and locally produced items will also be on display.
Families will be catered for with children’s activities and a fun run forming part of the day’s programme. Visitors are encouraged to bring camping chairs or blankets to enjoy the festivities in a picnic-style setting on the rugby field.
A journey into the Sandveld
Organisers say part of the appeal lies in the journey to the village itself. Located just over two-and-a-half hours from Cape Town, Redelinghuys can be reached via scenic routes that pass through towns such as Velddrif along the R27, or Piketberg via the N7 and R366.
Both routes offer views of farmland, coastal scenery and seasonal wildflowers, with farm stalls and stopovers along the way.
Adding a distinctly local element, the Sandveld Stoftrappers will take to the stage with traditional ‘vastrap’ dancing, rooted in Khoisan heritage. Their performances are expected to highlight storytelling through movement, with the rhythmic Riel dance offering a vibrant display of the region’s cultural identity.
Popular Afrikaans artist Dirk van der Westhuizen is set to headline the event with an evening performance, joined by performers including:
- Wynand and Cheree
- Jay Jay
- Grounded
Visitors are encouraged to extend their stay beyond the festival, with the surrounding Sandveld region offering a mix of nature and heritage experiences. Highlights include the nearby Verlorenvlei, known for its birdlife, as well as quiet rural landscapes, historic sites and coastal attractions.
Ndlangisa said the event aims to offer more than just a day of entertainment.
‘It’s an invitation to slow down, explore and connect with a region defined by its landscapes, its people and its unmistakable sense of place.’
– Nomonde Ndlangisa.
