African Grassroot Hoops (AGH) is a development organisation that cultivates leaders by encouraging them to open their minds to a world of opportunities.
The organisation was founded in 2014 as a non-profit company with the goal of bringing basketball to Africa, beginning with Cape Town and surrounding areas.

AGH aims to empower young and impressionable individuals by partnering with community basketball enthusiasts in underdeveloped areas to show them that by adopting a mindset that says the sky is the limit, they can achieve anything.
AGH’s mission is to use basketball as a symbol of empowerment for the young and impressionable members of South African communities by creating a platform that upskills our future leaders by combating community stressors while having fun.
Its drive is to be a source of hope, empowerment and an outlet for young individuals who live in one of the most unequal societies in the world.
The organisation hosts programmes and events that motivate young boys and girls to become the best versions of themselves possible.
It develops a blueprint and step-by-step curriculum for basketball coaches and players based on community input that highlights the elements of leadership skills that come from the game and opens their minds to the possibility of a good life in a bigger, better world.
All of this is done while having fun in a safe, controlled environment.
By collaborating with basketball enthusiasts to organise events that will allow young people to showcase their talents both on and off the court, the events provide the opportunity to take young people out of their normal environment, providing them with the exposure and support necessary to ensure that their leadership qualities can shine.
The events serve as channels for the opportunities that the organisation creates for both coaches and players, who can thrive in our organized systems and structures that are in place to develop their basketball knowledge and overall well-being.
