Louis Massyn and Tony Abrahamson, both in their 70s, have now completed close to 50 Two Oceans Marathons.
Massyn is the first person to complete 46 Two Oceans Marathons, with Abrahamson close behind at 45. The pair have been duly dubbed the race’s ‘godfathers,’ with decades of medals commemorating their achievements year after year.

Sports presenter and commentator Louis Karpas of the Two Oceans Marathon Expo interviewed the two athletes.
On having completed the record 46 TOM ultramarathons, Massyn commented:
‘Success is a journey, not a destination. I still have four ultramarathons to go in order to complete my intended 50 TOM ultramarathon voyages. There were some hair-raising moments, but I dug deep to keep pushing until the thrill of the finish line was in sight.’
Massyn is from the Free State; however, he has been a devoted runner of the Marathon since 1976, as well as the Comrades Marathon, which he first attempted at the age of 22 in 1973.
Abrahamson participated in his first Two Oceans Marathon in 1971 while studying at the University of Cape Town.
He has since completed every Two Oceans Marathon since 1980.
