South African boxer Simiso Buthelezi has passed away following his most recent and final fight.
Buthelezi’s last dance saw him disorientated whilst in the ring attempting to punch an “invisible opponent” as Evening Standard reports, in the 10th round of a WBF African lightweight battle against Siphesihle Mntungwa in Durban on 5 June.

The 24-year old received a stiff jab to the chin before punching the air away from his rival. May his soul rest in peace.

Boxing South Africa’s statement recalls that he collapsed “towards the end of his bout” and died on 7 June.
He was hospitalised after the match and reportedly suffered a brain injury and internal bleeding.
“At the hospital Mr. Buthelezi was given the best care possible but he, however, succumbed to the injury,” the statement adds.
Boxing South Africa says that it will be conducting an independent medical review, which will be made public upon the results.
