The Sasfin Cape Town Sixes Sport and Cultural Festival will be held again this coming February at the Green Point Cricket Club. The main festival takes place from February 23-24 2019 and will feature several cricket and football leagues for all levels of competitiveness.

The junior tournament will be held on February 22. The finals of those tournaments will be played on Sunday February 24.

The Festival, now in its 4th year brings one of Cape Town’s best sporting experiences to life. Whether you’re a medium-fast or a fast-medium bowler or just a cricket fan wanting to enjoy the matches and engage withsome of the South Africa’s cricket legends, then the SASFIN Cape Town Sixes is the place to be.

In the last few years the festival has grown from strength to strength from around 40 teams in 2016 to just over 60 teams in 2017, attracting players from Dubai, Qatar, Durban and Johannesburg.

The Sasfin Cape Town Sixes incorporates all players across all skill levels by allowing entrants to participate in different leagues such as social league, lager league, development league and the much-anticipated VIP corporate cup.

Founder of the festival, Sean Young explains “This year promises to be the biggest and mostextravagant one yet! Over 100 teams will be playing including the SA Cricket and Laureus Legends teams. We also will be offering an array of football leagues and we have added twowomen’s leagues to the tournament. There will be a line-up of activities and sports to choose from. One of our highlights this year is a sponsored helicopter catch competition,join in the fun and try to catch the highest ball dropped from one of Cape Town Helicopter’schoppers! You really couldn’t ask for a more action-packed, sporting weekend.”

Added to the vast sporting activities on offer are some incredible champagnes and wines to choose from; look out for the gin and champagne VIP area, the gourmet food trucks hosted in the global food village, all while listening to some of the best of SA’s bands and music talent such as The Kiffness and reggae legends, The Rivertones.

Cricket:

This year the Cape Town Cricket Sixes will be offering 6 cricket leagues to choose from. Each of the leagues is guaranteed to have 5 matches (3 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday) followed by a final and semi-final round. There will also be two women’s leagues added to the main tournament and a junior cricket tournament on Friday before the weekend festivities kick off. There will also be an exhibition match between the SA Cricket team, SA Rugby and the Laureus Legends teams.

Football:

Adding to the excitement once again this year is the Sasfin Cape Town Cricket Sixes football leagues powered by Fives Futbol. This is the first time that the Cape Town Cricket Sixes will offer a football league and they hope will be a popular addition to the festival. Footie fans will be pleased to find out that there will be 3 divisions for teams to choose from and each team is guaranteed at least 4 games with group stages being played on Saturday and elimination rounds and finals on Sunday.

Food and Drink:

The Global Food village will be hosting an array of food from around the world representing all the nations that make up the world of cricket. You can look forward to traditional curry, freshly made sushi, pulled pork rolls and hamburgers. To wash it all down, choose from an array of craft beers like Newlands Spring or visit the Castle Corner for some traditional Castle brews. If beer isn’t what you’re after, then grab a Beefeater gin and tonic to keep you cool while watching the pitch festivities.

The Sasfin Cape Town Cricket Sixes believe in community upliftment and empowerment. Giving back and developing the game of cricket is what the Cape Town Sixes is all about. Their CSR initiative #HitPovertyForASix, will be running various cricket coaching clinics leading up to the main event. The Sasfin Cape Town Cricket Sixes ambassadors are some of South Africa’s most legendary cricket heroes who will be giving their time and expertise to teach and train Cape Town children from surrounding townships. These youth groups can look forward to being coached by the likes of Allan Donald, Brett Schultz, Jacques Rudolph and Meyrick Pringle to name but a few.
