The Southern Mail Wynberg Family Festival, one of the biggest three-day community celebrations in the Mother City, will be taking over Maynardville Park this weekend. Featuring gourmet food, fashion, a beer garden, amusement park rides, and top local entertainment, it promises to be a blast for the whole family.
The festival (formerly known as Community Chest Carnival) is one of the Mother City’s longest-running and most successful family events.
Launched initially as a theatrical garden party, it has now evolved into a full-blown carnival filled with a variety of food, local entertainment, and loads of family fun.
Festival-goers can expect three days of non-stop family entertainment with, among others, Jarrad Ricketts, Amy Jones, DJ Waggy, Temple Boys and other top local artists and entertainers burning up the stage.
With more than 100 stalls to choose from, including the best gourmet and street food, fashion, crafts and gadgets, local exhibitors and traders have plenty for you to see and do.
There will be several food trucks, a beer garden, and a fully operational amusement park featuring thrilling rides suitable for the entire family.
“As the City, we believe that economic participation is a powerful means of empowering communities. We are excited to welcome back the Wynberg Family Festival and look forward to supporting this event.
“With the event’s potential to create over 1,000 part-time jobs, we encourage the community to go out and support all the local businesses the festival showcases, as this generates an income for many families across Cape Town.
“Not only is this event fun for the whole family, it promotes community development and ensures local businesses gain exposure to market their ideas and passions within their community,” said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.
As part of the event’s corporate social investment initiative, it will sponsor and host the Heinz Park Primary School’s annual prom, which serves as an incentive to keep learners in school.
