Two Oceans Trash Bash beach cleanup
September 21 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 amFREE
Make a difference this International Coastal Cleanup Day at the Two Oceans Trash Bash beach cleanup. The Two Oceans Aquarium is on a mission to better our environment, and will be hosting a beach cleanup at Monwabasi beach on September 21.
Working in collaboration with non-profit organisation Beach Co-op, Two Oceans Aquarium plans to tackle the issue of plastic pollution on our coastline. Through this, they hope to raise awareness about marine plastic pollution.
Two Oceans will be conducting research on what they call the Dirty Dozen, the 12 most collected rubbish items on the coast. These include carrier bags, crisps packets and cigarettes, amongst others. Once collected, these items will be recorded and contribute to their research into tracking different sources of marine litter.
This beach cleanup is both an opportunity to improve our environments and ourselves. Participants will be taking an active role in bettering their space, creating a deeper sense of responsibility towards their environment. Research has shown that 80% of plastic found in the oceans originated on land. By participating in this cleanup, you can help prevent litter from entering the ocean and being consumed by marine life, thus directly disrupting the cycle of pollution.
