This much-loved wine farm is good for family-friendly outings, complete with a kids pump track for the young bunch honing their skills. Most trails are fairly easy-going, with Lombard’s Terra, the downhill rocky slope perfect for those wanting something a bit more technical.

The coffee shop and of course, the wine are part of the excursion, making for the perfect day out. Their estate also offers bike hire, bike fitments and various biking events.

2. Hoogekraal

This trail park is more suited to the seasoned rider, with large enough jump tracks to keep even the professional satisfied. Expect some labour-intensive uphills, rewarded with some really awesome downhills. The main loop of the Hoogekraal farm is 8.5 km long, “with various specifically built trails feeding off and returning to the main loop, as well as the loop of the Welvergenoegd trails that also feeds off and returns to the main loop, giving you a total ride of 24km on the two farms,” the website claims.

Do all your bike shopping at the store and enjoy stunning views nearly all the way to Melkbos.

3. Meerendal Estate

Another great family spot, with loads of beginner-friendly trails in some of the Cape’s most exquisite scenery. Meerendal is great for entry-level riders, but the Dorsberg hill’s advanced downhill trail offers enough to entertain experienced riders, topping it off with a very nice flow line. Afterwards, pop into the scrumptious restaurant and delectable wine farm.

4. Klipheuwel

This single track can take you around the back of Durbanville, so the views are gorgeous. The trails wind through the Adderley, Occultdale, Klipheuwel, Eensgezind, Mosselbaink and Goedgerwaght farms, making up a total distance of 13.32km. This is a great way to get some distance in without encountering too many technical challenges.

5. Contermanskloof

Everyone loves Conties, which connects a bunch of trails over a vast terrain. Prepare for some good downhills and challenging switchbacks, not for faint-hearted. From this track, you can go to any of the abovementioned trails as they are all interlinked. The Diary Shed is a popular hangout for after-ride refreshments.
