‘Tis the season to be racking your brain on new and delicious ways to entertain your guests this Christmas. Saying yes to hosting the Christmas lunch or dinner party can feel like you have the weight of the world on your shoulders.
It’s stressful.
Putting together the perfect Christmas gathering may seem unattainable, but with the right tips and tricks, you can make it work.
Please Note: This is for all the newbie adults out there! Or everyone pretending to be an adult on Christmas. So, grab your notebook and jot this down. Here are five tips to ensure that your festive gathering (and any other gathering after that) is perfect!
Delegate
This shouldn’t be a one-man show, so make sure that you delegate some of the prep work to your family or friends. If the thought of cooking the entire menu for the evening immediately gets you sweating, assign dishes to others, but make sure that the menu is cohesive – if that’s something that’s important to you.
Set the mood
Step into Christmas by setting the mood with a combination of everyday decor, some bright colours, and beautiful festive prints. There’s no need to stand in long queues at the supermarket. Instead, use what you have around the house such as vases, wallpaper and your best crockery. Throw a few well-placed garlands and holiday decorations into the mix and you’ll be ready to get the holiday party started! Don’t forget the music!
Create new traditions
It’s fun to honour as many Christmas traditions as you can as it’s another good way to set the mood and allow nostalgic memories to come flooding in! Singing groovy Christmas tunes or watching timeless holiday films – whatever your tradition is, make sure that you switch things up and make a few traditions of your own. This will also help to keep things new and exciting, especially if you’re raising your own kids.
Don’t be afraid of suggesting a dress code
Let’s be honest, COVID has made us a little lazier. So, why not ask your guests to ditch the plakkies and oh-so-comfy baggy shorts for something a little fancier. It’s also a fun way to get into the spirit of things. Holiday sparkle or summertime chic could be a great guideline for your guests – do what makes your heart happy!
Don’t forget to relax and have fun!
Being the hostess with the mostess can sometimes leave you feeling like a headless chicken. Everyone wants their holiday party to go off without a hitch, but sometimes things happen – don’t stress! Make sure you’ve prepped your food beforehand and ask for help when you need it. This will aid in alleviating some stress and allowing you to actually mingle with your guests!
